What is the standard mesh made of? Woven fibreglass coated with PVC. All suppliers use very similar looking mesh regardless of their flyscreen prices. Quality varies - here at SFDF we endeavour to use the best mesh available both for your protection & to ensure longevity of your screens.

Are flyscreens a problem for homes with pets? The fibreglass mesh we use in our flyscreens is the standard in millions of homes throughout the world, many of which have pets. We also offer a high strength polyester PETMESH which is a very strong woven polyester coated with PVC.

Can the mesh be replaced easily? Yes. In normal use, the mesh should last many years. Rolls of mesh are available by the metre.

Will insects get through the tiny gaps? Most insects are just too big. Typically insects encounter the flyscreen and depart quickly. Mesh used by SFDF is the industry standard 1.8mm hole size.

Do insect screens require cleaning? In normal use flyscreens do not accumulate much dirt or insects. An occasional flick with a duster and a gentle wipe without pressure of the mesh with a damp cloth once in a while is all that is needed. The frames can be wiped with a soft damp cloth and a mild cleaner.

What is a retractable screen? A retractable window and door screen is spring loaded and rolls up and out of sight.

Why would I want a retractable screen? Retracting a screen not only enhances your view, it increases the amount of light entering through your window by as much as 25%. You may not want to obscure the appearance of a beautiful front door but want the ability to open it for ventilation without the annoyance of having bugs get into your house. In winter the flies aren't as plentiful so you are able to retract the screens completely.

What is the size of a standard door or window? From our experience each door & window is unique therefore we prefer to measure & quote each job individually to ensure the best fit possible.

How do I replace my screen if I tear or damage it? Call us direct and order a new roll of screen. The damaged roll of screen is simply removed and replaced by the new roll. Most parts of the system can be replaced individually without having to purchase another complete system.

Are there different grades of stainless steel mesh available? Yes there is but we only use 316 which is the highest grade available

How long does it take to install? Installation time varies depending on the size and type of door to be installed and any preparation of the opening that may be required. As a guide, a 2.0m x 4.0m wide screen will take 25-30 minutes.
